Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

This policy describes how the Chrome extension Auto Highlight Words Everywhere ("the extension") handles information.

What the extension does

You make lists of words. On the web pages you open, the extension looks for those words in the text of the page and highlights them in the colors you chose. It also counts the matches and shows the number on its icon.

Page content stays on your device

To find your words, the extension reads the visible text of the pages you open. This happens only inside your browser. The text of the pages, the addresses of the sites you visit and the matches it finds are never sent anywhere, never stored on a server and never shared. The extension does not use analytics, advertising identifiers or tracking of any kind. No account is required.

Data stored on your device

Your word lists and settings (colors, sites where highlighting is off, appearance options) are saved with Chrome's built-in storage. If Chrome sync is on, they may sync between your own Chrome profiles through your Google account, as controlled by your Chrome settings. The extension also keeps a small local counter (install date and a match total that stops at 1000) to decide when to ask for a rating once. This data never reaches us.

This website

After installation the extension opens the welcome page on this website. If you save a list there, the words you typed go straight to the extension in your browser. They are not sent to our server. The website has no cookies, analytics or ads.

Feedback you choose to send

If you use the feedback or uninstall form on this website, the text you type and, optionally, your email address are sent to a form hosted by Google Forms and stored in a spreadsheet owned by the developer. The extension version may be added so we know which version you used. This information is used only to improve the extension and answer you. It is not shared with third parties.

Permissions

• Access to all websites — to find and highlight your words on any page you open. The page text is processed locally and is not collected.
• storage — to save your lists and settings.
• contextMenus — to add the "Highlight … everywhere" item when you right-click selected text.
• scripting — to start highlighting in tabs that were already open when the extension was installed or updated.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated date.
